I finally saw All The Beauty And The Bloodshed this week, having missed it at various cinemas near me, where it appeared for a day or so before vanishing to leave more room for extra showings of the superhero stuff. I love a big dumb action film, sometimes, but I am growing increasingly weary of looking at the listings for the one cinema in my town and thinking it must be half-term again, even though it's just been half-term. (All right, give it a rest, Mubi! What do you want, subtitles?!)
All The Beauty… was on BBC2 on Sunday and I finally sat down to watch it on a summery evening, and it was gorgeous and sad and inspirational and terrifically made. For those in the UK, it will be on iPlayer for “over a year”, but if you are yet to see it, choose your moment carefully; I found it wrenchingly sad, which I should have expected, but somehow it took me by surprise and floored me completely.
