Television is having a love affair with how much it hates very rich people. This is probably due to Succession and The White Lotus being so successful. Succession allows us to see the inner workings of the people who dictate the outer workings for the rest of us. I often think about the choice not to include Covid in its world, because "unfortunately none of the world's really wealthy people were going to be affected by the pandemic", as Sarah Snook told Vulture. The wealthiest hotel guest in The White Lotus is Tanya, an oil heiress, whose aimlessness is to be pitied and reviled, depending on the scene; everyone else can merely afford extremely extravagant holidays. These are not the sort of people who take bread rolls and cheese from the breakfast buffet in order to make themselves a cheapie lunch.
